Minecraft - Week 6

I have seen the first snow of the year here. I'm glad to know that it snows.

I've lost track of what date it is, and even which week exactly, although I think I've been here approaching two months.

I have discovered an immense wealth of iron, diamonds, gold and obsidian, but had become stuck in a cave I had once again fallen into. Luckily I managed to redirect the flow of a waterfall into a magma pool to allow me safe passage back to the surface, which again came through breaking out below the water line - where I became stuck below the ice and had to abandon my items in search of air. After a rapid burst, which cracked the ice, some recovery time in bed, and a search of the ocean floor, I soon recouped my lost items.

Seeing leaks in my tunnels, I reinforced the walls, and using the obsidian I had found, I finished constructing the obsiidan ring outlined in the notes from the mines. making a portal following the template I had found.

Nothing happened.

Deciding to return to where I had been and mine more obsidian in case it was required, I returned underground. Soon reaching the now blackened ex-lava pool, I began to dig for many hours before heading back to the surface.

Along the way, I came into contact with one of the monsters of this land, barely taking shelter inside a passageway as it exploded. The blast still knocked me unconscious and I came too disorientated, and began to wander the tunnels as hunger gnawed away at me. I eventually found my way out, emerging on a hillside, guided by the sound of chickens and cows, which I soon rewarded for their guidance by warming them above a fire and satiating my hunger.

Heading back to my island home, I encounted and killed, if that term can be used, many skeleton creatures and zombies / exploding beings.

I swear that I saw another human in the distance, a tall, thin man dressed in black, although he disappeared when I blinked.

Upon getting home, I began renovating my lair, building a furnace room for cooking / smelting, and unloading my goods before tumbling into bed.

Rereading the notes in the morning, I found that I must ignite the portal to activate it.

Hurriedly equipping myself for an excavation into the unknown, I struck a spark near the obsidian ring and witnessed a purple glow ignore across the frame, strange violet flakes of what seemed to be ash drifting through.

Inside was a surreal world, even compared to the one I had woken up in scant months ago. Hellish and stifling hot, it appeared I had materialised in a huge cavern, teeming with what seemed some rotting hybrid of pig and man walking about, and huge floating heads in the sky, trailing tentacles and spitting fireballs.

My first instinct being to dig, I huddled into a mountain side and watched awhile before tunneling down, soon striking a tunnel system, or maybe a road. Seemingly lined with blood and bone, I followed it to a half-finished castle or fort system. Tentatively exploring, I saw flaming skeletal beasts which soon attacked me.

Turning to flee, I headed back to the portal, determined to bring resources to establish my own out post here.

Back in the real world, if that is what this is,  I brought my building materials from storage and began scouting for food. In a snowy glade I saw a wolf attacking a herd of sheep amongst the snow. Approaching it with an offering, I quickly tamed it, and had it come hunting with me. With it's aid I managed to slaughter a menagerie of chickens, cows and pigs, and also some squids sunning themselves in shallow water, although sadly the pup drowned in the process.

With my food replenished, I ventuerd back into the void and established a base amidst an old fortress room, connected to the portal, which I had reinforced in a shelter of its own, by a mine-cart system.

Finishing my new outpost by placing a second bed, looking forward to my much earned rest, I was awaken by explosions to see one of the floating heads had entirely destroyed the outerwall and much of my interior with a barrage of fireballs from the floating heads.

Gathering what I could I ran, but, turning quickly to avoid a herd of aggressive pigmen, I dropped all of my possessions into the sea of flames which the whole complex was constructed on.

I have since fled back to what I am now considering the normal world, and I will reprovision and rearm myself before fully exploring the ruins I found there, and re-establishing my secondary outpost in the hopes of somehow finding a portal home.

Minecraft - Week 5

I have begun to understand this world more now.

In the few short weeks that I have been here, I have seen wonders I thought could never be - mixed falls of water and magma, giant squid nesting in shallow lakes, and monsters beyond the imagination.

I have constructed a bookshelp to hold these journals, and have made a rudimentary clock to help me establish a better grounding of the passage of time in the underground tunnels - which I have set up with minecarts and tracks, linking one of my previously discovered mines with a further wonder of this world - in my exploration along the seabed, I was pulled down into a subterranean cavern, landing in a lake beneath the sea.

Fighting off the now customary local monsters, I soon established it as a rich resource, and quickly plotted how best to connect it to my now extensive network.

My attempts at this brought me into contact with further signs of prior life - a woodchest containing bread, wheat, and other assorted goods, but most importantly, I found reference to worlds other than this one.

It seems that I may be close to finding out how I came here, if not a way back home.

I must admit however, that I should miss this place were I to leave.

I have enjoyed constructing my own utopia amongst the perils of this land, and I have begun to dabble in harnessing electricity to power my minecarts.

Minecraft - Week 4

I dreamt of a floating island.

I climbed up to it by stacking rocks as high as 20 of me, and then I stared out across this new world before jumping, falling to land mere paces from a lake which would have saved me.

I woke from this nightmare in my bed, and began my day by fashioning torches for further exploration and refinement of my mines.

I plan to construct tunnels and begin a throrough exploration of the areas I wandered into in my pilgrimage.

A return to the horrors of my first night here came about whilst I was redirecting the flow of an irrigation channel I had made from the sea.

Following the stream of water down, I was shot at from below, in the seething cauldron which formed the base of the waterfall.

Twisting out of the way, I saw a skeleton below me, notching another arrow to its bow, and another of the zombie-ish creatures which had been my inititation into the feral horrors of this land.

Luckily my new armour sustained most of the blows and I was able to pierce the zombie creatures skull with the point of my diamond pick, swatting the skeleton to shattered pieces in a couple of extra blows.

If these are the creatures I can expect to find whilst exploring, I had best fashion a proper sword soon, and my expedition to gather resources for such a task struck gold, or rather diamonds, but sadly I lost them to the magma in my haste to excavate as much as I could, only being able to salvage a single fragment.

My redirected water supply has cooled off the majority of the magma in the level I am currently working on however, and gifted me an ample supply of that curious black stone I recognise as obsidian.

I'm unsure how many days I have spent toiling now, but I have structured a staircase and passage system descending into the depths of my lair, and I have a rudimentary layout etched out for further exploration.

I am lacking wood as a resource, with no trees growing on my island.

I shall need to plant and tend to some soon, or extend a land-bridge across to a more fertile land mass.

Minecraft - Week 3

I have found what I need to construct a compass, but I fear my ability to return here will be compromised if I leave so soon.

I have weathered my first storm in this strange land, and I am glad to know that it rains here.

I sheltered inside one of my mines, adjacent to another I found which had previously been here, and I feasted upon roasted chicken and pig meat.

I am now digging down into the depths of this land, gathering all the resources I can before beginning the long trip back home.

Equipped in iron armour, I am ready to set out, leaving guiding towers behind me to mark my way back.

After a surprisingly short amount of time, I stumble upon a previous tower, and to my chargrin I discover that it was built but a few hundred steps from the shore opposite my home.

This journey was not for naught however, as I have discovered many rich resources with which to further my time here, and the remains of a previous inhabitant.

Home now, I am happy to unload my treasures into my storage chests and retire to bed to rest away the aches of my journey, and offer up thanks for my deliverance.

Minecraft - Week 2

The days are starting to run together in my time spent underground - nevertheless, I have returned to my new home, and I am beginning to delve down into the island core.

I made a cleft into the wall to let in the sea, creating a curtain of water which let me look out into the sky, letting me know if it was day or night. It also shall double as a useful entrance if I ever have the need to escape into the sea.

Digging down to the foundations of the island, I fell through into a ravine, discovering a pool and a magma spring. I now begin to shape this new found extension into something usable, and minable.

I found gems, blue and red teardrops, but I lost them to the lava. Running from the flow I fell into a hole, luckily landing in water. Further exploration has shown a broad world of lava and waterfalls, and most curiously, I have stumbled upon a mine.

After many hours digging through the rough ground with a large lump of flint, heading upwards, I finally broke through into the ocean, swimming as hard as I can I surfaced near an island inhabited by a large amount of sheep, which I chased, attacking with my flint to provide some sustenance after my long imprisonment underground.

I also found sugarcane, and happily sucked to satiate my sweet tooth.

I have made a pillar of stone to guide me back to this pleasurable location, but I believe I see land marks known to me far to the east, and so I shall set out across the arid sands which separate them from me.

I have finally reached the end of the great desert and I have found a strange oasis.

A large waterfall is pouring into the greenlands of what appears to be a marshland.

Curiously, I found squids within an inland pool, surrounded by sheep and wild pigs.

I will create an outpost here, until I can craft the tools required for me to return to my home, and that strange mine.

I hope to find some record of people having lived in this new land, and traces of where they may be now.

Minecraft - Week 1

Day 1

I've woken up in the leaves of a small copse of trees. I'm not sure how I got here, but I'm on the edge of a broad desert, beside a lake.

There's a mountain of dirt and sand beside me, which I have begun to clear to gain shelter from the sun.

There is life here, for I found a sheep and killed it. I have made a rudimentary house, and I am hearing noises in the night.

What seems to be a giant spider is prowling around outside of the makeshift door I constructed of the rough-hewn planks of my new surroundings.

The night stretches on.

Unnerved beyond bearing, I ventured out to quell the noises, and was ambushed from above by two of the beasts, lying in wait above my chamber door. I slayed one and the other fled, although I am now heavily wounded.

I've somehow managed to return to the relative safety of what I am now considering my home, and I shall wait out the night.

Through my own choice, and not at all due to what appears to be a zombie pressed up against the lattice of my door.

What hellish place is this that I have found myself in?

Day 2

I explored further afield and found what appears to be an ocean.

Swimming to cool off, I lost all of my gear. Returning to shore I found an island with a deep cave and began to build a second base of operations on the beach, working through the night to clear the ground of debris and the sand and dirt washed there by the tide. I builtg up a wall of banked earth along the perimiter and began digging down to the solid stone foundations of the island.

Day 3

Returned home and developed my land further with the materials gained, building a bridge and starting to fence off the sea.

 Day 4

Got lost in the desert and then found an island of stone I decided to turn into a mine / another temporary house.

An unknown amount of time was spent underground expanding and developing my new home before I surfaced for more supplies of wood and food.

Back safely, I now settle down for my first comfortable night in a make-shift bed, far from the prowlings and murmurings of this islands monsters.
